Helen Mae Pohl, 89, longtime Elma resident and professional seamstress, she passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Capital Medical Center in Olympia.

Helen was born on August 4, 1926 in Lewis Town, Montana to Andrew Edward and Florence (Messenger) Lewis. The family moved to Elma when Helen was 12 and she graduated from Elma High School in 1945.

On December 16, 1947, Helen married Nelson Pohl in Elma, WA. He was a career officer in the US Airforce and part of Strategic Air Command, Helen followed him during his entire career with the Airforce. Colonel Pohl retired in 1974 and they moved from Barksdale, LA to Washington. Nelson passed on February 7, 2012 and rests along side Helen his beloved wife in Elma.

Besides being a professional seamstress, she did work as a Teller at a bank here in Elma when she was younger.

Helen enjoyed traveling, cooking, and sewing. She dearly loved her husband, children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and loved her pets and enjoyed every moment with her friends.

Helen is survived by three sons: Steven Edward Pohl of Elma, Galen David (Kim) Pohl of Lake Tapps and Alan Robert Pohl of Satsop; three grandchildren: Katie Marie Pohl, Jennifer Elizabeth (Michael) Schober and Brock Dustin Pohl; two great grandchildren: Isaac and Niko Schober. She was preceded by a brother Edward Lewis and a sister Donna Jean Lewis.

There will be a graveside service at Oddfellows Cemetery, Elma on Wednesday, October 21st at Noon followed by a celebration of life at the Stay-Beyond Hotel in their reception room.
