Obituary for Robert Howard "Bob" Pearson

Robert Howard "Bob" Pearson
Robert H. “Bob” Pearson, 92, a Montesano resident for the last 5 years, died at his home Saturday, September 17. 2011. Bob was born in Connersville, Indiana August 17, 1919, the son of Chester Arthur and Ruby (Schaffner) Pearson. He was raised in Connersville and left school to work during the depression, returning to Connersville High School to graduate in 1939 and then served in the Army for 5 years during World War Two.
After the War he worked for the National Broadcasting Company in Chicago and also attended television engineering school there, a craft that was in its infancy.
Bob transferred to NBC in Burbank in the mid 1950’s and worked as a camera and videoman for TV shows over many years. Among the shows Bob worked on were Milton Beryl, Art Linkletter, Laugh In, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, (and then their individual shows), Dinah Shore, Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme, Days of Our Lives and from time to time, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Wheel of Fortune and many more..
In 1959 Bob was nominated for an Emmy for his intricate camera work for The Shirley Temple-Black production of “Beauty And The Beast” with Jack Palance.
For 25 years Bob traveled with NBC Sports and did many political conventions, including the 1960 Democratic Convention in Los Angeles at the nomination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, where he also had a good story about how he met Senator Kennedy behind the scenes. Bob was doing video at Kent State when the massacre occurred and at the scene in LA whenBobby Kennedy was shot.
Bob was a member NABET, a television engineering union at NBC. He also enjoyed reading and golf and caring for his small dogs.
He was married to Patricia Griffin in Chicago in 1954, a marriage of thirty years until her death in Los Angeles in 1984. In 1987 he married Andrea Percini Hoflin in North Hollywood, CA. They lived in Sherman Oaks, CA until 1989 when they moved permanently to a home they had in Palm Desert, CA. They lived there for 18 years before coming to Montesano in 2006 to be near Andrea’s family on the Harbor.
Besides Andrea, at the family home in Montesano, Bob is survived by two step-daughters: Leslie Hoflin Capoeman (Charley), Aberdeen and Janice Hoflin, Moreno Valley, CA; four step-grandchildren: Alanna Madrill, Phoenix, AZ, Kristen Capoemann, Taholah, Katie Katzer, Spanaway and Levi Capoeman, Aberdeen; two step-great grandchildren: David Katzer, Spanaway and Celia Madril, Phoenix; and also two nephews: Robert Pearson, Huntington, IN and Dick Pearson, Jasper, IN. Three brothers and a sister preceded Bob in death.
A private family gathering will be held at a later time. Bob will be inurned at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, in Los Angeles, CA.
