Ann Barnhart
This past summer, after coming home from the beach, we stopped by to visit Caroline, Rich and Jeff. As with most all of our previous visits, Caroline was her usual gregarious self adding lots of spark to her stories. Funny and kind she always had a laugh and many times she was laughing at herself. She made no pretenses and had very strong character. She didn't seem to age a bit. She admitted to often forgetting things and treated it like a minor defect...like "so what! I forget a couple things, let's just laugh about it."
She also enjoyed working in her garden. After we would finished talking I would be led out to her garden, walked through the grass, through bushes and branches, deep into the interior of it. She loved her Rhododendrons and each plant had a story. She occasionally seem to go crazy tripping over the uneven ground, strong and nimble heading for the house to grab a pair of gardening shears. She wanted us to take some rhubarb home. She was so excited to pass it on. We still have several stalks in the freezer (per her recommendation).
When I will think of Aunt Caroline, I will think of her garden, her rhubarb plants and her stories about her hero Uncle Glenn the cavalryman and their great memories. How lucky is she to be back with that handsome Calvary man. We should be so envious, at the thought of sitting with the two, exchanging stories and catching up.
