August 23, 1929 — June 17, 2023

Leonard Lee Young, 93, a lifetime Grays Harbor resident passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his home in Aberdeen, Washington.

Leonard was born on August 23, 1929, to Leonard W. Young and Dorothy (Hellman) Young in Aberdeen, Washington. He graduated from JM Weatherwax High School in 1947. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force, and upon completion of basic training, he was stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where he would later meet Delores Currie. In 1949, Leonard was honorably discharged from the service. In December of 1949, he and Delores married in Elkton, Maryland. They spent the first few years of their marriage in New Jersey, but after Leonard’s father passed, the couple moved to Aberdeen, Washington. Leonard built their forever home in 1959. Leonard began working for ITT Rayonier, where he would become a shift superintendent. He was very proud of his position and the work he did. Leonard retired from Rayonier in 1988.

He was a member of the Aberdeen Eagles as well as the Aberdeen Elks.

Leonard enjoyed fishing and taking his dogs for walks. He also had a love for traveling. He and Delores took adventures all over New Mexico and Arizona. They were able to travel to Tahiti, which had been one of Leonard’s lifelong dreams. After retirement, he began gardening, and found great joy in the craft and was truly a wonderful gardener.

Leonard is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Delores; son, Robert Young; daughter, Jeanne Brecht; sister, Darlene Young Massey; and his parents, Leonard and Dorothy Young.

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Graves, of Snohomish, Washington; brother, Phillip Young, of Montesano, Washington; 4 grandchildren: Lisa (Randy) Baker, Alex Graves, Laura (Casey) Palzer, and Aaron Graves; multiple great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Harbors Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care and kind encouragement, as well as wonderful family and friends who offered assistance on numerous occasions, and to Dr. Marcus Heisler for his excellent care and kindness. Leonard was a true gentleman who always put others first and will be remembered for his kind and generous nature. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed more than words can be expressed. Services are being scheduled and will be announced at a later date. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
