Karen Woolsey

December 4, 1940 — January 12, 2023

Karen Bell Woolsey, 82, longtime Aberdeen resident died Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, WA.

Karen was born on December 4, 1940, in Manchester, Iowa to Kenneth and Dora (Unger) Bolin. She attended Monterey Peninsula College in CA where she met Roy Woolsey. In 1961, she married Calvin Roy Woolsey. Roy passed away in 2009. They moved to Aberdeen in 1964, where she resided in the family home until 2019 when she moved to Lacey to be near her daughter.

Karen went to Grays Harbor Community College in the 70’s. She completed the Nursing Program and received her LPN and went to work at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. Soon after she got a job with the Aberdeen School District as a Paraprofessional helping in the Special Education Program and Resource Room.

She was a longtime member of the South Aberdeen Baptist Church and attended Coastal Community Church. She would later attend Harbor Calvary Chapel. She loved to collect and dry leaves of every shape and color. And all the phone books had leaves drying in them. She also liked to read, sew, take on various craft projects and gardening. She enjoyed her flower beds and caring for them as well as arranging those flowers into pretty bouquets. Karen also loved animals. She had several dogs and cats throughout her life which were very special. One dog named Penny was at the top of her list for favorite dog, and Cassie was her special kitty. She would tell others that in Heaven, God would reunite her and the beloved pets who went on before her.

Karen is survived by a son Calvin Mark (Julie) Woolsey of Astoria, OR and a daughter Raynell (Brian) Sloan of Tenino, WA; two grandchildren: Emily Woolsey of Spokane, WA and Bethany (Tyler) Schultz of Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Meany in Manchester, Iowa.

There will be a celebration of Karen’s life on Friday, January 20th at Noon in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s chapel, Aberdeen, WA, followed by a reception in Fern Hill’s Dorothy Mann Reception Hall. Burial took place at Fern Hill Cemetery.
