Ruby Walczyk

May 22, 1927 — October 31, 2012

Ruby Ann Walczyk, died October 31, 2012 in Vancouver, WA at the age of 85. She was born in Holdrege, Nebraska to Guy and Myrtle (Waters) Louthan on May 22, 1927. At the age of 13 she moved with her Mom and Dad to Aberdeen, WA to join two brothers and a sister who had relocated earlier. Ruby graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen and enrolled at Grays Harbor Community College to pursue a career in Medicine. She became a Lab Technician at Grays Harbor Community Hospital where she worked her way up to Lab Director.

On December 29, 1950, Ruby married Felix Leonard ‘Kitty’ Walczyk in Aberdeen. He died on March 24, 1974.

At the time in her life when most people would be retiring, Ruby left the Hospital after 30 years and moved to Vancouver, WA to start her own floral business. She started her business from scratch and ran it for 20+ years. She was active in Rotary, Evergreen Business Association, Junior Achievement, YMCA, Festival of Trees, and others. She donated her time and items from the flower shop to help many fund raising events.

She will be remembered as a very special lady, an astute businesswoman, and an excellent role model for her family.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (Gene) Chouinard, Ted (Denice) Walczyk, and Julie Walczyk-Fischer. Her grandchildren Brett and Tyler Walczyk, Amanda Fischer, Shayna , Kyra, and Levi Barker, great-grandson Jackson Walczyk, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Felix L. Walczyk.

The family is very grateful for the Caregivers at Merrill Gardens at Orchard Village in Vancouver, WA.

There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Sunday, November 4th from 2 to 5 PM and on Monday, November 5th from 9 AM to Noon at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A celebration of life will follow at The Aberdeen 1st Presbyterian Church, 420 N. Broadway at 1:00 PM. Burial will then take place at St. John’s Cemetery, Wishkah Valley next to her husband Felix. A reception will be held at the Aberdeen Rotary Log Pavilion following the graveside.
