Della Jeanette Wakefield, 87, a lifetime Aberdeen resident, went to be with her husband, Burton and her dog, Cosmo upon her death, Monday morning, April 29, 2013 at Montesano Health & Rehab in Montesano, WA.
Della was born on July 11, 1925 in Aberdeen to William and Selma (Johnson) Fodge. She graduated from Weatherwax High School and then earned her Liberal Arts degree from Grays Harbor College.
On March 17, 1945, Della married Burton Wakefield. He died in 1988.
Della worked for Sears, LaMonts and Waldenbooks. She also worked for the Washington State Library System and was instrumental in the building of the local Timberland Library in Aberdeen. She was Past President of the Pacific Peaks Girl Scouts Council. She was an avid reader.
Della is survived by two daughters: Vicki Rowe, her fiance, Bill and Debra Salo and husband Richard, all of Hoquiam, and a son David Wakefield; Eight grandchildren: Baby boy Wakefield, Davey Wakefield, Shannon Webster, Patrick Wakefield, Jim Salo, Jarred Rowe, Alicia Fleetwood and Jeff Wakefield and fourteen great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a special friend, Diane Ward. Della was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, Roy, Henry and Carl ‘Gene’ Fodge and her dog Cosmo.

There will be a funeral service for Della on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel. A private family graveside service will follow in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.
