Edward “Buck” Vincent, 94, passed away Monday, July 9, 2012 in Aberdeen. He was born March 24, 1918 in Gales Creek, Oregon, the son of Lyman Ray and Pearl (Todd) Vincent. He graduated from high school at Jewell, Oregon and attended Oregon State College (now University) for a year before going to work in the woods.
He joined the Navy in 1942 serving during World War Two as a gunner on the hospital ship USS Tryon in the South Pacific and New Zealand transporting hospital cases.
After his discharge in 1945 he worked for logging companies in Oregon before moving to Aberdeen in 1947 and began working for Rayonier. He was married to Helen Zaputil in Aberdeen, August 21, 1948 and had worked for several other logging companies before retiring in 1983 as a logging supervisor for Anderson & Middleton of Hoquiam.
His passion in retirement was photography and was always off to a new location with camera and tripod over his shoulder. He family and friends loved the prints he shared with them.
In January 2008 Buck moved from his home in Montesano to Westhaven Villa in Aberdeen where he lived until his death.
Buck and Helen had no children but enjoyed spending time with their five nieces and nephews. Survivors include two nieces: Georgia (Dan) Boeholt, Aberdeen and Susan Vincent, Tacoma; a nephew: Jeff (Judy) Vincent, Grayland; great-niece: Angela (Vincent) Godwin, Vancouver, WA and her children Nykesha and Jordan; great-nephew Scott(Fawn) Vincent, Grayland and their children Kendall and Blake. Buck was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1993, a brother, Wilton Vincent, a sister Elizabeth Wilcoxen and nephews Steven and Mark Vincent.
A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Dorothy Mann Reception Room at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Monday, July 16th at 2 PM. A private family graveside will have taken place in Fern Hill Cemetery.
