Rodney P. Ventar, Jr., 67, a Harbor resident for 46 years, died at his home in Aberdeen, Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Rodney was born December 26, 1943 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Rodney P. Ventar, Sr. and Natividad Valaraiso (Aceron) Ventar.
He was raised in Hawaii, coming to Aberdeen in 1965. He had worked for Swanson’s Foods from 1965 until 2000 and after his retirement, he worked for the Daily World in the circulation department until earlier this year.
Rodney had previously been married to Francine Lum and then married Barbara Scherwitz Delaney in Aberdeen on January 4, 1983.
He was a member of the Aberdeen Eagles and belonged to senior leagues in bowling and pool. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his kids and grand kids, shooting pool and practicing karate.
Besides his wife, Barbara of the family home in Aberdeen, Rodney is survived by 5 sons: Ronald Ventar, Olympia, Robert Ventar, Hoquiam, Ronald Delaney, Everett, WA, Richard Delaney, Mt. Vernon and Ralph Delaney II, Aberdeen; 2 daughters: Melinda Ventar-Wells, Humble, TX and Jackqueline Delaney-Douglas, Aurora, CO; 3 brothers: Lauchlan Ventar, Kauai, HI, and Daryl and Marcus Ventar, both of Germany; 10 sisters: Marlene Molina, Tucson, AZ, Gwen Miller, Oceanside, CA, Beverly Curtis, Tulsa, OK, Sharon Montapert, Kauai, HI, Corinne Phillips, San Diego, CA, Valerie Maddalena, Atlanta, GA, Alison Bailey, Tehachapi, CA, Ashlie Korff, Oceanside, CA, and Andrea Ventar and Leilani Ventar-Schogell, both of Germany; 2 aunts: Beatrice and Emmanuel Gabot, Hayward, CA; and also 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents: Rodney Ventar, Sr. and Natividad Gregory; stepfather: Jimmie Joe Gregory; a sister: Vera N. Gregory; and three grandchildren: Rodney Brant Delaney, Baby Delaney and Jasmin Ventar.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, November 5th at the Harbor Calvary Chapel, 108 S. K St., Aberdeen.
