Barbara Delaney Ventar, 70, a longtime resident of the Harbor, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, October 4, 2012. She was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on May 21, 1942, the daughter of Charles D. and Agnes (Mercer) Scherwitz. The family moved to upstate New York and Barbara later graduated from high school there.
She married Ron Delaney in Clarksburg, W. Virginia in 1961, later divorcing in 1980. She then married Rodney P. Ventar, Jr. in Aberdeen on January 4, 1983. Mr. Ventar died here just a year ago on October 25, 2011.
Barbara had worked as a grocery clerk at Swanson’s for many years, retiring in 1996. She then worked part-time waitressing at the Blue Beacon in South Aberdeen until she fully retired in 2007.
She was an active member of the Harbor Calvary Chapel and its missions programs, and also was known for her cooking, especially her cheese cake. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and serving others however she could.
Barbara is survived by 5 sons: Ronald Delaney, Everett, Richard Delaney, Mt. Vernon, Ralph Delaney II, Aberdeen, Ron Ventar, Olympia and Robert Ventar, Aberdeen; 2 daughters: Jackqueline Delaney, Aurora, CO and Melinda Wells, Humble, TX; 3 brothers: Lee Scherwitz in Michigan, Rick Scherewitz in New York and Art Scherwitz in Rhode Island; a sister: Janice Scherwitz; and also 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, October 13th at Harbor Calvary Chapel, 108 S. “K’ St.
