Madelon Montierth Vanek, 91, Ocosta resident and housewife, died Monday, May 22, 2023 at her home in Aberdeen.
Madelon was born on June 15, 1931 in Thatcher, Arizona to James Arthur and Effie Leona (Stowe) Montierth. She grew up in Thatcher and then moved to North Phoenix at the age of 15. She graduated from high school in 1948.
She married Lloyd Shane White. They would later divorce. She then went to work for Rays Steel and Welding in Mesa, AZ where she met Herman Wieting and they married in 1955. They lived in Chandler until 1962 when they moved to Westport, WA. Herman died in 1994.
In 1999, she met Donald Vanek, they married and moved to Lewistown, MT until 2015 when Don died. She returned to Ocosta to be near her children.
Madelon was an artist and loved doing all sorts of things including knitting, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed doing puzzles with the grandchildren. Getting her hair done on Thursdays and shopping with her grandson Lee.
Madelon is survived by three sons: Gregory Lloyd (Margaret) White of Phoenix, AZ, Larry (Melinda) White of Ocosta, WA and James “Rusty” (Gwenda) White of Glendale, AZ; a stepson, Kurt Wieting of Phoenix, AZ; adopted son, Harold (Jenny) Williams of Westport, WA; grandchildren: Leroy White, Michelle Phillips, Jason White, Valerie White, Keith White and Brandon White; Great Grandchildren: Matthew White, Trinity White, Logan White, Kaia White, Kaelynn White and Tarynn White Madelon was preceded in death by a stepson, Paul Wieting and a half sister, Elenora Chapman.
There will be no services for Madelon. She will be inurned on her mother’s grave in Mesa, AZ at a later date.
