Kari Urdahl

September 9, 1916 — March 18, 2015

Kari Urdahl, 98, a longtime resident of Aberdeen, died at Sunrise Adult Family Home in Olympia on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Kari was born in Vaaler, Norway, September 9, 1916, the daughter of Karl and Gunda (Knashaug) Dellerud. She graduated from the school system in Vaaler and on November 28, 1942 she married Sigurd Urdahl there.

They moved to the U.S.A. for a better life. They first came to New York City on May 12, 1950. A few months later moved to Derby, NY, near Buffalo and soon moved to Poulsbo, WA in April 1951, coming to Aberdeen shortly thereafter.

Kari worked in the kitchen at St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1960, retiring in 1979. Her husband, Sigurd, died here in 1991.

Kari was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway and Our Saviors Lutheran Church, now Amazing Grace Lutheran Church. She was active in church activities, especially the quilting group. She enjoyed spending time at their summer home at Hood’s Canal where she tended to her flowers, raspberries, and vegetable garden and entertained friends and family.

She is survived by a son: Steinar and wife Susan Kathleen Urdahl, Brush Prairie, WA; a daughter: Karen Ann and husband Gary Chartrey, Lacey, WA; two grandchildren: Kristen Dunseth and Melissa Wagner; and six great grandchildren: Tucker, Henry and Addison Dunseth and Lucy, Charley and June Wagner.

A private celebration of her life is being planned at Hood’s Canal in April for the family.
