Charles Frederick Timmons, 96, Aberdeen resident, died Thursday morning, March 10, 2011 at his home in Aberdeen. He was known as “Fred” to everyone. Fred was born on June 22, 1914 in Fisher, Washington to Charles Leonard and Louise (Lake) Timmons. He grew up in Junction City and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1932.
On March 13, 1944, Fred joined the US Army and served with Co. ‘A’-330th Engineers. Prior to joining the Army he worked as a crane operator helping to raise the ships sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the Army he worked on building the Burma Road, bringing supplies to China. He was Honorably Discharged on May 29, 1946 and returned home.
On July 15, 1950, Fred married Louise M. Welsh in Aberdeen. She died on December 12, 1984. Fred later married Lyra Harvey on October 2, 1991 in Reno, NV. She died on March 2, 2009.
Fred worked at The Parkway Tavern from 1972 until his retirement in 1983. Before that he had worked for George Collett Construction, Harold Hegg Construction, Anderson-Middleton Logging, EC Miller and Raft River Shake Mill.
Fred was a member of the Aberdeen VFW Post 224, Aberdeen Eagles # 24 and Eagles REACT. Fred was an avid bowler, loved to dance and loved to travel. He loved to tell the story of traveling around the whole world while in the Army. He also loved doing yard work and could fix anything. He especially enjoyed baking cookies with his great grandkids.
Fred is survived by his son: David and wife Arletta Timmons of Aberdeen; daughters: Kathie Larson and husband Ron David of Salkum, WA and Carol and husband Ray Winter of Aberdeen; son: Ron and wife Kay McGrath of Hoquiam; grandchildren: Dave Allen, Tessa, Eric L., Eric T., Steve, R.J., Jesse, Mallory, Scott and eight great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by brothers: Leonard and Stanley Timmons and sister Leona Sellers and a step brother Edward Armstrong.
There will be a celebration of Fred’s life on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 2-5 PM at the Aberdeen VFW Hall on Heron St.
