Margaret Irene Solan passed away on April 22, 2017 in Olympia, Washington. She was born on August 14, 1921 in Spokane, Washington to Daniel and Adaline Close who were originally from Saginaw, Michigan. Margaret was the fifth of eight children. She attended St. Augustine’s Grade School and Lewis and Clark High School. James Joseph Solan, the son of Irish immigrants, was born and raised just outside Anaconda, Montana. Margaret met James while he was a student at Gonzaga University and were married May 6, 1950 in Spokane. They soon started a family with Margaret as a homemaker and James practicing law. After living in Seattle and Olympia they moved to Aberdeen in 1953. They had six children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, her eldest son James Thomas Solan and all of her siblings.
A Rosary vigil will be held at Fern Hill Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
A funeral mass and reception to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. The family requests any remembrances be made to St. Mary’s School or the YMCA of Grays Harbor.
