Michael Smith

July 21, 1945 — November 12, 2015

Michael James “Mike” Smith, 70, a longtime Harbor resident, died at Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, Thursday, November 12, 2015. He was born in Aberdeen, July 21, 1945, the son of James W. and Lillian Florence (Shipp) Smith. He was raised in Wishkah Valley and graduated from Wishkah High School in 1964.

He joined the Army right out of high school and upon his discharge returned to the Harbor and worked for Long’s Foundry in Hoquiam for 16 years. He would also work at the Little Hoquiam Boat Shop for 5 years, janitorial work and would deliver papers for the Seattle PI until ill health forced his retirement in 1996.

Mike enjoyed many hours at the Hoquiam Senior Center playing pinochle on Monday and Friday. He also enjoyed bowling, bingo, puzzles and pool.

He is survived by a son: Stewart Smith, Lincoln, NB; 2 daughters: Kim and husband Ken Daniels, Central Park and Roxanne and husband Mike Warren, Modesto, CA; Half-sisters: Patty Rooker, Montesano, and Betty Piersol in Arizona; aunt: Dorothy Justice, Selah, WA; and also 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Smith and John Gilland and a sister: Judy Prince.

An inurnment with military honors at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 1:30 PM.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Hoquiam Senior Center, 703 Simpson Ave., Box A, Hoquiam, WA 98550
