Frank Elmer Silvan, 88, lifelong Harbor resident, died at Pacific Care Center, Hoquiam, Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Frank was born in Aberdeen on December 13, 1926, the son of Frank and Olga Johanna (Lehto) Silvan.
He grew up in Ocosta and graduated from Ocosta High School in 1945. He joined the Army right out of high school at the end of World War Two and then entered the Marine Corps reserves. He worked for Aberdeen Plywood Co. in the late ‘40s, and when the Korean Conflict started his Marines Corps unit was activated.
On July 22, 1951 in Naches, WA he married the love of his life, Naoma D. McMillin. After 63 years of marriage, she survives Frank at the family home.
After the Korean War, Frank, along with a family friend started what was to become Silvan Construction Company. At first specializing in house moving, they would later become well known for foundation construction and repair. He volunteered his house moving expertise to launch the Lady
Washington in 1989. Frank retired at the age of 70 and passed the business to his son-in-law, Scott Prato.
Frank was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. After retirement he served five missions for the church: the first two years at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City; two years at the Zions Girls Camp near Shelton; 2 years in the church employment offices; and then 4 years working with the younger missionaries in Westport and Aberdeen.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also served many years as a volunteer for both the Grays Harbor Sheriff Department and Aberdeen Police Department.
Besides his wife, Naoma, of the family home, Frank is survived by three sons and their wives: Rick (Jennifer Weldon) Silvan, Aberdeen, Leslie (Glenna) Silvan, Magna, UT and Gregory (Isabella) Silvan, Kennewick, WA; four daughters and their husbands: LuCinda (Donald) Gustavson, Springfield, OR, Lora Lee (Scott) Prato, Aberdeen, Kristine (Shane) Massey, Chandler, AZ and Melanie (Chris) Nicholson, Aberdeen; a sister: Margaret Quattrochi, Seattle; and also 20 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1-8 PM Monday, December 29th at the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, December 30th at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, 2735 Riverview Dr., Bench Drive area, Aberdeen. Interment will take place in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.
