Fredrick Thad Siler, 76, a nine year resident of Grayland, WA and former Defensive Coach for Humboldt Univ., died Sunday, August 27, 2012 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, WA.
Fred was born on April 7, 1936 in Marcia, New Mexico to Thadius and Lula (Bruner) Siler. He was raised in Feather Falls, CA and graduated from Yuba Jr. College in 1956 and then went to Univ. of Oregon where he played Defensive End for the Ducks 1958 Rosebowl Team. He graduated with a Master’s of Education in 1958.
Fred joined the US Army and played on the Army Football team. He had also been stationed in Germany. Fred was Honorably Discharged.
Fred coached football at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, OR and at Albany High School. He then coached defense at Humboldt Univ. in Arcata, CA. He also taught SCUBA at the college. After he retired from coaching he moved to Grayland in 2003.
Fredrick married Sally Ann Gregory on July 2, 1960 in Reno, NV. She resides at the family home in Grayland.
Fred loved football, SCUBA and sports in general. He was a devoted husband and enjoyed time with family and friends. He was also an avid Ducks fan…”GO DUCKS!”
Fred is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sally Siler of Grayland; 2 sons: Greg and Bob Siler of Port Orchard, WA; a brother Joe Siler of Pennsylvania and a sister Charkie Roulette of Missouri; five grandchildren: Kyle, Kellie Stanton, Katei Siler, Mikaela and Jacob Siler; Sister and Brother in law: Ellen and Paddy Brandvold of Grayland; a special friend, Mike Gilhamer and Fred’s caregiver for the last two years, David Woolery.
