Donald James Schweitzer, 68, a lifelong resident of Aberdeen, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Wednesday, August 15, 2012. He was born October 22, 1943 in Aberdeen, the son of Joseph Nicolas and Helen (Leiden) Schweitzer. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1961 and went to barber school in Tacoma.
Don served in the Navy in the early 1960s and after his discharge established Don’s Barber Shop in Aberdeen. He retired in 2010.
He married Lorretta M. Downard on Christmas Eve of 1984 at a pastor’s house in Raymond, WA. They made their home in Aberdeen.
Don belonged to the 40 et 8 in Aberdeen and enjoyed woodworking.
Besides his wife, Lorretta, of the family home, Don is survived by his two sons Joseph Schweitzer wife Felicia, Aberdeen Wa; Rick Arthur and wife Serena , Omaha, NE; Three daughters: Helen Schweitzer-Levee husband Darrell , Spanaway, WA; Loni Berman husband Richard of Northern CA and Kim Berman husband Ron of Northern CA; 2 brothers: Bob Schweitzer, Puyallup and Ed and wife Susan Schweitzer, Chicago, IL; a sister: Susie Zimmerman and husband Larry , Hoquiam; and also 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
A private gathering of family was held at Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.
