Dolores Shortt

March 20, 1927 — November 25, 2012

Dolores Arlene Shortt, 85, lifetime Aberdeen resident, died Sunday, November 25, 2012, surrounded by family at Grays Harbor Health & Rehab Center in Aberdeen, following an extended illness.

Dolores was born on March 20, 1927 in Aberdeen to James and Audrey (Brown) Petticore. She attended School in Aberdeen. She loved gardening, small animals, and was a good cook. She had taught all her kids how to cook. Many people have crossed her path and are the better for it. She loved to help young people learn respect and love. She welcomed many to her table. Worked hard to raise her family with good Christian Values.

Dolores is survived by daughters, Sharon and husband Dan Haavisto of Shelton, Sherian Boice of Vancouver, WA, Laurie Shortt of Aberdeen, Robyn McPherson of Oregon City, OR, and a son Willard Melvin Marable of Aberdeen. Grandchildren, Chris Minor of Mt. Vernon, Cassandra Haavisto of Maple Valley, WA, Courtney McKay of Aberdeen, Beau Shortt of Aberdeen, Carter Boice of Vancouver, WA, David McPherson of Oregon City, OR. Great Grandchildren: Emily and husband James Stewart of Mt. Vernon, Nathan Minor of Ellensburg, Wesley Minor of Mt. Vernon, WA, Rebecca Haavisto of Vancouver, WA, Lauren Haavisto with U.S. Navy. Great-Great Grandchildren: Gabriel Haavisto of Vancouver, WA, Hector Haavisto of Vancouver and yet to be born, Madeline Christine Stewart to be of Mt. Vernon, WA. Niece Ann Gordon of CA and James and JoAnn Post and Families. And her faithful dog Piper.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marclyn and her husband Jerry McLane, daughter Susan L. Marable and numerous aunts and uncles.

Her family will miss her.

There will be a Celebration of Dolores’s life on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 1 PM in Fern Hill Funeral Home. A reception will follow in Fern Hill’s Dorothy Mann Reception Hall.

The family suggests that donations be made to either Floyd & Delores Jones Cancer Institute, PO Box 900, Seattle, WA 98111 or The Friendship House, 513 N. ‘G’ St., Aberdeen, WA 98520.
