Donald J. Scott, longtime harbor resident, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Kendriek Nursing home in Lakewood, WA. He was 69.
Don was born in Jacksonville, FL on August 13, 1947, the son of Earvin and Frances Scott. The family moved to Seattle in August of 1960.
Don’s passion was golf and people, and was highly talented at both. His golf career flourished under his father’s tutorship and many notable pros thought the nation.
At Shoreline High School, he was paired with his brother Dan and they won many team and single events, including two state team titles. In 1967, he was the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) Men’s Amateur finalist. That same year he was a Morse Cup team member. Graduating from Shoreline High in 1965, Don won a four year golf scholarship to Houston University where he teamed with many of the country’s top players such as; Jim McLean, Kermit Zarley, John Mahaffey and Elwin Fanning to name a few.
In 1968 and 69, Don was back to back Washington State Men’s Amateur Champion. He played in two Hudson Cup Tournaments in 1982 and in 2005.
Don was the Superintendent and General Manager at the Grays Harbor Country Club in Aberdeen for 41 years, retiring in April 2015.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Susan Scott; Brother Dan Scott; two daughters: Connie Peterson and Sunshine Harper and a son, Dustin Scott; Three grandchildren: Joey, Madison and Vera.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 AM at the Cornerstone Community Church in Aberdeen, WA.
