Ruth Schwarz

Ruth T. Schwarz, 94, a lifetime resident of Aberdeen, died at a Seattle hospital Friday, August 2, 2013. She was born in Aberdeen, August 1, 1919, the daughter of Anders and Anna (Haukelid) Espedal. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1937 and also Grays Harbor Business College.

Ruth married Theodore E. “Ted” Schwarz in Aberdeen in 1940 and they made their home here until Ted’s death in 1997. Ruth then moved to Seattle in 2000 to be nearer to her children.

Ruth had worked for Olympic Motors in Aberdeen and then stayed home to raise her children. In 1965 she went to work for Aberdeen Federal Savings and Loan, now Anchor Bank, as a loan officer, a position she held until she retired in 1979.

She was active in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, now Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, and also Parent Teachers Association as the children were going through school. She was also a member of Chapter DP of the PEO and the YMCA. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf and knitting many afghans for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ruth is survived by a son: Theodore Stanley “Ted” and wife Gloria Schwarz, Lacey, WA; two daughters: Beverley A. “Bev” and husband Jerry Reyhons, Kirkland, WA and Susan J. and husband Bob Peck, Seattle; a sister: Agnes Elmer, Port Angeles, WA; a granddaughter: Andrea Schwarz; four grandsons: Jim and Scott Sypher and Rob and Anders Peck; two great granddaughters: Brooke and Grace Sypher; and three great grandsons: Blake, Ryan and Kyle Sypher. She was preceded in death by a brother Arthur, a twin brother to Agnes, and a sister, Ruby Espedal.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at Noon Tuesday, September 10th at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. The Rev. Val Metropoulos, pastor of the church, and Rev. Brad Gill, pastor of Light and Life Community Church, will officiate. A private family burial service took place in Fern Hill Cemetery.
