Stephen Albert ‘Steve’ Rowe, Sr., 69, and a former Dredge Captain for the Operating Engineers, Local 302, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA.
Steve was born on May 1, 1943, in Aberdeen to Albert E. and Mae Ruth ‘Mazie’ (Davis) Rowe. He grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1961.
Steve married Elinor Ylinen on November 28, 1959 at Hoquiam Baptist Church. Elinor died on March 22, 1970. Stephen then married Vicky L. Wakefield and were later divorced
On September 15, 1984, Steve married Molly Ann McHugh at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Molly lives at the family home in Hoquiam.
Steve worked for Manson Construction for many years and retired in 1998. Before that he was a partner and operator Tuba Cedar in Aloha for 5 years from 1985-90 (the unofficial office was at the Aloha Tavern). He also worked for 7up for 2 years and Langendorf Bread in Aberdeen.
Steve was a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 302, starting in the mid 70’s. Stephen worked for the Port of Grays Harbor in the early 70’s and started his dredging career working on the “Robert Gray.” Stephen worked in Alaska for about 9 years building boat harbors in the Southeast portion of Alaska. Stephen was a Dredge Captain on the “Dredge Husky”. Steve loved dredging on the Husky.
Steve was a member of the Hoquiam Elks Lodge, Grays Harbor Poggie Club and a social member of the Hoquiam VFW.
Steve loved to fish and hunt elk with his kids and his Dad, playing Cribbage with friends, camping and concerts. HE also liked to watch Flat Track Racing in Castle Rock, WA.

Steve is survived by his wife of 28 years, Molly Ann Rowe of Hoquiam; three sons: Steve Jr. and wife Jeanette Rowe of Aberdeen, Ernie Rowe of Hoquiam and Jarred Rowe of North River; a daughter, Michele and husband Douglas Wren of Juneau, Alaska; grandkids: Jeremy Rowe, Aaron Rowe, Terry Rowe, Jeff Rowe, Keith Grenier, Christi May Grenier, Sierra Grenier and Audrey Rowe; Great Grandkids: Emmalynn Rowe and one on the way. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Elinor and a great granddaughter Elliana Rowe.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Steve on Saturday, March 16th at 1:00 PM at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge. A potluck reception will follow.
The family suggests that donations be sent to the Grays Harbor Poggie Club in Aberdeen.
