Dennis Houston Reams
Long-time Harbor resident, Dennis Houston Reams, age 94 joined his beloved wife, Lois Reams for all eternity on November 02, 2020.
Dennis was born in LeQuire, Oklahoma on December 01, 1925. He grew up on a farm with a favorite goat named Billy. Around 1940, he moved with his family to The Harbor. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1943. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army-Air Force with training in Louisiana and Kansas. In Topeka, Kansas he met a beautiful young lady named Lois Holland who worked for Kansas State Transportation Department.
When his military duty ended, and he was honorably discharged, he married Lois and moved back to Aberdeen to begin their life together.
He worked in the plywood mills until the early 60’s when he qualified to join the Aberdeen Police Force. He served the City for 31 years, starting as patrolman, and, worked himself up the ranks to Captain.
Dennis had a big, generous heart, and, helped many people throughout his life. Friends and family were always welcome in his home.
He was an avid reader, history buff, and, loved the land, trees and growing things. (a farmer at heart) In 1982, he purchased 10 acres on Blue Slough Road where he spent many hours planting, pruning, mowing with his tractor and tending his crops well into his 80’s. He was a 50-year member of Aberdeen Elks Lodge #593 and very active in International Footprint Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbi Reams-Porter of Chehalis, WA, son, Doug Reams of Lucerne, CA; three grandchildren, Kyle Reams, and, wife, Cindy Reams of Lucerne, CA, Tyson Reams, and, wife, Veronica Reams of Tucson, Arizona, Kendra (Reams) Medellin, and, husband, Matt Medellin of Jackson, CA; half-sister, Jean Collins of McAlester, OK, sister-in-law, Carolyn Holland of Darlington, SC. niece, Dorothy Buchanan and husband, Don Buchanan of Bellingham. In addition, five great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Dennis passed away with courage and dignity. He had strong faith in the Lord and approached his passing as a new beginning and with no fear.
There will be a time of visitation and viewing on Monday, November 16th from 9-11 AM at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, with a funeral starting at 11 AM in Fern Hill’s Chapel. Burial to follow at Wynooche Cemetery, Montesano, WA.
