Roy William Rasanen, 74, Harbor resident and former teacher at North River, died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Riverside Place in Hoquiam, WA.
Roy was born on October 1, 1948, in Elma, WA to Frank and Pearl Marie (Hazel) Rasanen. He graduated from Elma High School in 1966 and then attained his undergraduate degree from St. Martin’s College in Lacey, WA. He then went onto University of Washington where he graduated with his master’s degree.
Roy was married to Joan (Lilligard) Rasanen. She later passed away.
Roy worked for Timberland Federal Banks eventually becoming vice president. He also served on the national petroleum board during this time.
He would later get his teaching degree and taught at North River for 12 years and retired at age 62.
He was a member of the Montesano Moose Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, Elma Eagles, Washington Education Association, UW Master Gardeners, Grays Harbor Corvette Club, and was a Firearms Safety Instructor in Grays Harbor. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Roy is survived by his two sons: Robert (Tonya) Rasanen and Richard (Kelly) Rasanen; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren: River and Miley. He was preceded in death by a brother Dave Rasanen.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the Satsop Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, WA.
