Julia Marcella ‘Judy’ Preston, 91, a resident of Aberdeen and former secretary for Gladys Phillips, died April 12, 2013 at Westhaven Villa in Aberdeen.
Judy was born on June 9, 1921 in Kennett, Missouri to Owen A. and Georgia Bond (Waltermeier) Gossett. Her family moved to Denver, CO when she was an infant. She graduated from high school in Denver in 1939. Her family then moved to Vale, Oregon. She moved to Aberdeen in 1987.
Judy had worked as a secretary in Vale, Oregon, San Francisco, CA, Texas, Las Vegas, NV and Kent, WA before moving to Wesport, and working for Gladys Phillip from 73-87. After her husband Richard died, she returned to work for Gladys in the 90’s. Judy also did bookkeeping at the True Value Hardware store in Grayland.
Judy was married to Fred Kerr in Las Vegas from 1955 til they were divorced in 1967. She then married Richard Preston in Seattle from 1972 until his death in 1987.
Judy was a member of the Grays Harbor Rose Society, National Legal Secretary’s Assoc. and the was a Girl Scout Leader in Las Vegas. She liked to garden, sew, crochet, knit, bake bread and read.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Joanne and husband Dale Mullins of Aberdeen; two grandchildren: James and wife Teraesa Farrell and Maureen and husband Adam Johnson; a great grandson, Samuel Farrell. She was preceded in death by a brother Newell Gossett and a sister Elizabeth Gossett in 1941, and a sister Dorothy Gossett Pierce in 2012.
There will be a celebration of Judy’s life on May 5th, 2013 at Harbor Calvary Chapel, 108 South "K" Street, Aberdeen, WA.
She will be inurned at Valley View Cemetery, Vale, OR with her brother Newell and sisters Elizabeth and Dorothy.
