Marlene Ann Powell, 75, a Hoquiam resident, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Saturday evening, January 19, 2013. She was born in St. Paul, MN, March 22, 1937, the daughter of Arthur and Levina C. (Baars) Doree.
She graduated from high school in St. Paul and had been married to Gary Nelson in St. Paul. They later divorced and she came to Olympia and then Hoquiam. She married James Powell in Montesano, June 12, 2005.
Marlene was a member of Harbor Assembly of God Church, Hoquiam and was active in their women’s ministries. She also enjoyed playing bingo, making clothing and floral wreaths.
Besides her husband, James of the family home in Hoquiam, Marlene is survived by two sons: Dan Nelson, Hoquiam and David Nelson, Aberdeen; a daughter: Debbie Rivera, Devins, MA; a step-daughter: Susan E. Powell, Vancouver, BC; and also four grandchildren. A brother, Donald Doree, died before her.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 26th at the Harbor Assembly of God Church, Hoquiam. Pastor Ken Middleton will officiate. Inurnment will take place in Sunset Memorial Park, Hoquiam, at a later time.
