Norman Duane Phillips passed away at home on the afternoon of April 25, 2017. He was 88 years old. He was born in Aberdeen to William and Ether (Hartill) Phillips. Norman graduated from Weatherwax High School. He also attended Grays Harbor College. He served in the Navy Reserve. He worked for Anderson & Middleton Company from when he finished high school until they closed the sawmill. Then he worked for many of the other lumber mills before going back to Anderson & Middleton Cedarmill until he retired.
He married Darlene Bagley and they were married until her death in 1971. In 1973, he married Patricia Hougham. Norman was a dedicated fisherman and hunter from childhood and would tell stories about it at the drop of a hat. He loved the outdoors, picking wild blackberries and mushrooms. He also enjoyed going clam digging.
Duane is survived by his wife Patricia; sons, Michael (Connie) Phillips, Wayne Phillips; step-daughters Marjorie Chapman, Kathleen Sohnrey; step-son William Hougham; and granddaughters Vickie (Matt) Crocker and Shelley Phillips. He was preceded in death by his son Steven Phillips; step-daughter Diane Atkinson and step-sons James Goodell and Paul Goodell.
