Jacqueline Persson

August 3, 1931 — March 27, 2013

Jacqueline Mae Persson, 81, a long time resident of Ocosta, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013 at Capital Medical Center in Olympia. She was born in Portland, OR, August 3, 1931, the daughter of Elvin and Christyne (Flaa) Olson.

She graduated from Quinault High School and continued her education at Grays Harbor College, Central Washington State University and post graduate studies at Kansas State University and Central Washington University.

Jacqueline started teaching at Ocosta in 1951 and taught there the majority of her career. She then moved to the Cosmopolis School District and until her retirement took on the challenge of designing and teaching in the district's first Title 1 reading program. Her students from all 30 years remember her as a fun, compassionate and inspiring educator and many kept in touch with her until her death. Teaching was her passion and she was a mentor to many.

She married the love of her life, Alfred Persson, in Hoquiam, May 12, 1953. They enjoyed 54 years together until Al's death in 2007. Both truly enjoyed their many years of retirement filled with travel, extended winters at their second home in Earp, CA and their grandchildren.

Jacqueline is survived by two daughters: Dana and husband Craig Zora and Heidi and husband Nathan Balderston, all of Cosmopolis; a brother: Donald Olson, Fremont, CA; and five grandchildren: Jordan Gakin, twins MacKenzie and Morgan Zora, Zachary Zora and Maxwell Balderston. A brother, Daryl Olson and her twin sister, Jeannine Sevey, preceded her in death.

A wife, a mother, a grammie, Jacquie's strong belief in the importance of family created a lifetime of happy memories for her daughters and grandchildren. She taught us that laughter was love. Her timeless gift to us is the ability to love and laugh in even the hardest times. She will be missed, but we know that she is with her Al once again.

There will be a gathering of friends and family at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th at the Ocosta Rec Hall, 45 Ocosta 6th Street on the Westport Highway.

Memorials may be made to Stevens Elementary Leadership Fund, 301 S. Farragut St., Aberdeen, WA 98520
