William S. Peckham, 78, an Aberdeen resident since 1987, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Wednesday, April 3, 2013. He was born in Badminster, PA, August 2, 1934, the son of Cletus and Loretta B. (Long) Peckham. The family moved to California where he attended school. He joined the Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict.
Bill had been a long-haul truck driver for Safeway in the central valley of California. After coming to Aberdeen he had drove a chip truck for a year. Before retiring in 1989 he drove movie crew-van in Astoria on the making of “Ninja Turtles” and “Kindergarten Cop”.
He enjoyed restoring old cars and an Airstream trailer. He had remodeled his home and operated a large tractor he owns.
Bill is survived by three sons: Steve and wife Kitty, Port Angeles, WA, Robbie and wife Lisa, Anchorage, AK and Tim and wife Jana, Centralia, WA; three daughters: Terry and husband Lenard Dorning, Centralia, Cathy and husband John Earley, Aberdeen and Lorie and husband Brad Grasmick, Boise, ID; and also 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. A brother, Robert, preceded him in death.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 3 PM Wednesday, April 10th in the Dorothy Mann Reception Room at Fern Hill Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at 1 PM Thursday, April 11th in Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA.
