Barbara Winchester Murray

Barbara Joan Murray passed away peacefully on June 11, 2011 in Aberdeen, Washington after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 13, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Carl and Ruth Webb, she grew up in Hyde Park. After graduating from high school, Barbara pursued her love of art and design at the Chicago Institute of Art. After meeting at a Strawberry festival she married her first husband, John Lawrence Winchester in 1953. After moving to California she completed her Masters in Design from the California Institute of Art. She practiced interior design for many years, and is known for her large format mosaic and modern contemporary design concepts. In the early 1980's, Barbara completed a Masters Degree in Family and Marriage Counseling and successfully ran her own business, Genesis Counseling, for many years. She married her second husband, Don Murray in 1987, and for many years they lived in Alameda and Fremont, CA. In 2003 Barbara and Don moved to Ocean Shores, WA to enjoy their retirement. She was an active member of the local church community and in the past year helped found the Grays Harbor Community Church in Aberdeen, WA.
Barbara is survived by husband Don Murray, sons Brad (April) and David (Eva) Winchester, grandchildren Tait and Caroline Winchester, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at the Grays Harbor Baptist Church, 2733 Aberdeen Avenue in Aberdeen, WA (Home of Aberdeen Ave Baptist Church) at 10 AM, on Monday, June 20, 2011. Reception to follow.
