Lucy Barbara Mullins, 84, lifetime Hoquiam resident and former payroll clerk for Root Paint, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at her home in Hoquiam.

Barbara was born on January 29, 1929 in Hoquiam to C. Ernie and Lela (Webster) Travers. She graduated from Hoquiam High School. She went to work for Bell Telephone as a switch-board operator. She later worked for Root Painting in Hoquiam.

On October 14, 1989, she married John C. Mullins at her family home in Hoquiam. He resides at the family home.

She was a member of the Olympians Hiking Club and was a member of a group within the Olympians known as the Bailey Bunch. She and her husband spent many a winter in the Arizona snow birding.

Barbara liked to bake pies, cookies and cakes. She was very well known for her candy making. She enjoyed salmon and steelhead fishing. She also liked to decorate birdhouses with materials she found. She liked to take walks around the neighborhood and always had a pocket full of cookie’s for the neighborhood dogs. Barbara was good at everything she set out to do.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 24 years, John C. Mullins of Hoquiam; a daughter, Heidi Beltico of Olympia; Step-son, Dale and wife Joanne Mullins of Aberdeen; step-daughter, Mary Ann Mullins-Strong and husband Alan Strong of Maple Valley; Four grandchildren: Jackson DeWitt, Jeremy Riggs, Sarah Strong and Jessica Mullins; two great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter Dianna Hegstad, a sister Elva Vessey and a grandson Brandon Mullins.
