Michael Curtis Moyer, 68, longtime Aberdeen resident and former Environmental Tech at Weyerhaeuser’s Cosi Pulp Mill, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at his home in Aberdeen.
Michael was born on October 1, 1947 in Boise, Idaho to Marvin and Ruth (McPherson) Moyer. They soon moved to Cosmopolis where Michael graduated from Aberdeen’s Weatherwax High School in 1965. He joined the US Navy on July 20, 1966 and earned the rank of Radar man 2nd Class. He was Honorably Discharged on July 23, 1970 and returned to Aberdeen where he went to work at the Morch Hotel as a Bell Hop.
He went to work for Weyerhaeuser in the Pulp Mill in 1970 and retired in 2005.
He was married to Bonnie Reibel of Elma for a number of years before their divorce.
Michael was an avid golfer, having lettered in golf at Aberdeen High School. He was a licensed pilot and had his own plane for many years at Bowerman Field. He loved watching college football, Seahawks, major golf tournaments and the Family Man on TV. Michael also liked to hang out at the Pour House playing pool. Mike was well known for his sense of humor and laughter.
Michael is survived by his son, Greg and fiancé Melanie Mayberry of Elma; Step-grandchildren: Jessie and Abby Mayberry; nephew’s: Brian Patterson, Matthew Patterson, Jason Patterson and Robert Patterson; Nieces: Kellie McElliot, Becky Wilppone, Cathy O’Brien and Michelle Patterson. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Sandi Kilwien and Betty Keith.
There will be a graveside inurnment on Saturday, May 21st at 11 AM in Fern Hill Cemetery. A reception potluck will be held at the Hoquiam VFW Hall following the graveside.
