Byron “Butch” Kingdon Monroe Jr., 80, longtime Westport resident and former project manager passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington.

Butch was born on July 8, 1943, in Palo Alto, California to Byron Sr. and Alice (Street) Monroe. He was raised in the town of Los Gatos, attending school; however, Butch later received his GED so he could enlist in the United States Coast Guard. He spent the next 4 years in the coast guards before his discharge. After the military, Butch began working in construction. He started his family, having 3 children: Bill, Terry, and Daidrian. He later met his true love, Margaret Kopp, they married on May 5, 1990, in Tahoe, Nevada. Butch continued a career in construction and telecommunications, eventually promoting to project manager. This career led him to work in various states with a few companies throughout the years.

He and Marge lived in Colorado, Montana, both northern and southern parts of California, and Washington. After Butch retired, the couple moved to Westport, Washington. Butch enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. He loved Friday night game night with his wife and friends where he won most games, playing dominos and pinochle. Butch was a wonderful man; he was one to always lend a helping hand to anyone. He is loved by many and will be truly missed.

Butch is survived by his wife, Margaret “Marge” Monroe, of the family home; sons: Bill Monroe, and Terry Monroe; daughter-in-law, Laurie Monroe; daughter, Daidrian; stepdaughters, Jennifer and Jackie; sisters: Carol and Doris; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents: Byron and Alice Monroe.
