Melanie Jean Johnson’s spirit was set free, Sunday, December 8, 2024, at her sister’s home in Central Park, Washington. Melanie was born February 9, 1960 in Mansfield, Louisiana to John G. Johnson and M. Annette House. Melanie grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma and has many friends and family still living there. 

Melanie graduated from Northern Oklahoma College and received her Registered Nursing license. Melanie also supervised at several Skilled Nursing facilities. Melanie moved to Washington in 2015 and felt like she had come home. 

Melanie is survived by her son, Dustan Shelton of Tacoma, Washington, her daughter, Lesa Richardson of Hoquiam, Washington as well as two grandchildren, Tristan Richardson and Liam Richardson. Melanie is also survived by her brother, Bruce Johnson (Diana) of Ponca City, Oklahoma, her sister, Cheryl Campbell (Bill) of Aberdeen, Washington, five nieces and nephews and six grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Melanie was preceded in death by her parents. 

Melanie’s viewing is to be held from 11am to 3pm on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington. Her Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024 at the chapel in Fern Hill Funeral Home. 

Melanie was a one-of-a-kind, free spirit who lived life on her own terms. She was intelligent and funny, and cared deeply about the world and the people in it. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to your favorite charity in Melanie’s name.
