PUYALLUP- John Edward Meers, Sr. ,79, passed away on March 20, 2023 at Linden Grove Health Care Center in Puyallup. He was born October 30, 1943 in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Alta Caroline (Mann) Meers. He was known as “Ed” to his friends and family.
Ed graduated from Elma High School, Class of 1962, where he played football for the Eagles, and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. After graduation, Ed went to work for the Simpson Door Company, where he worked for three decades before his retirement.
Ed was an avid gardener, and often spent many hours trying to grow the perfect rhododendron. In his spare time, he coached Little League Baseball in McCleary. He was also the lawnmower “fix-it guy” in McCleary. He spent time working with hands in the garage, particularly at Christmas time, when he worked for hours crafting gifts for nieces and nephews. For many years, Ed served as the President of the Simpson Recreation Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Sarah, Carol and Lois. Surviving are his sons, John Meers, Jr. and his wife Caroline; James Meers and his wife Kellie; and Jarrett Meers and his wife Lisa, along with his grandchildren, Hailey Anderson, Myles Meers and Brittany Meers, and great-grandchildren, Arianna, Milena and Victoria. He is also survived by his sisters, Rhoda Tolle, Jackie Weeks, Mary Ponton, Ruth Meers and Dorothy Meers, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 20 at the VFW Hall in McCleary. All are welcome to attend.
