Laura Anne McVicker
1936 - 2015
Laura Anne McVicker, a longtime Aberdeen resident, died on March 23, 2015 at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center in Montesano, WA.
Laura was born on April 1, 1936 in Cashmere, WA to James and Helen (White) McVicker. She graduated from Cashmere High School in 1954. She attended Wenatchee Junior College for one year before transferring to Washington State College in Pullman, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1958. She taught school in eastern WA for eight years, Wilbur for one year, Rosalia for five years, and Okanogan for two years. She moved to Aberdeen in 1966 and taught home economics at Hopkins Junior High before transferring to Aberdeen High School in 1982 and retiring from teaching home economics and business classes in 1988.
In retirement she volunteered for WEA Retired, teaching workshops for retiring teachers of WA state. She was a SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisors) volunteer for twelve years. She also was a Red Cross blood drive volunteer. She was an expert seamstress and her hobbies included various kinds of sewing, cross stitch, crewel, yarn crafts, making teddy bears, and reading.
Laura is survived by two sisters: Helen Fillhart (Don) of Upland, CA, Mary Belle Bonnett (Howbert) of New Bern, NC, a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Harriet and Margaret. Donations in Laura’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
