Longtime longshoreman Patrick J. “Pat” McFadden died Friday, May 25, 2012 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen. He was 73. Pat was born at home in Aberdeen, on March 5, 1939, the son of John E. and Maude (Nunn) McFadden. He was raised in South Aberdeen and attended local schools.
Pat served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960. Following his service, he returned to the Harbor and joined his brothers in longshoring. He was a member of the ILWU, Local 24. In 1992, ill health forced his retirement.
Pat married Frances Mullans in New Jersey in 1960. They divorced in 1978. He later married Ellen Glynn in Aberdeen on July 2, 1986.
Before Pat’s illness, he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies. He also liked to hunt, fish, play pool, and toss darts. He enjoyed cheating at cards and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Besides his wife, Ellen, at the family home in Hoquiam, Pat is survived by four sons: Patrick, Jr. of Aberdeen; Mark (Susan) of Palm Dessert, CA; Albert Nuttall, Jr. of Aberdeen; and Bruce Walloch of Hoquiam; and two daughters: Carol Powers(Gene) of Bonney Lake, WA; Jeannie McNeal (Scott) of Aberdeen, He is also survived two brothers: Ronnie McFadden (Jan) of Tulare, CA and Michael “Butch” McFadden of Aberdeen; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A daughter H. Aulene McFadden; two sisters: Evelyn “Red” Strunk and Mary Ruth “Dolly” Karl; and two brothers: John “Jack”, Jr. and James “Jim” McFadden all preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at the Aberdeen First Presbyterian Church at 4th on Broadway on Saturday, June 9 at 11 AM. A potluck at the church will follow the service.
