Glenn Mcafee

Glenn E. McAfee, 90, a resident of Sun City, Arizona, formerly of Aberdeen, Washington since 1962, died Saturday, September 15, 2012 in Sun City West, AZ.

He was born March 3, 1922 at Portland, OR to James L. and Ruth H. (Rossiter) McAfee.

He married Evelyn T. Smith on April 28, 1944 at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She died in 2002.

He attended grade school and the first year of high school at Portland, OR. In 1936 the family moved to Seattle, WA. He graduated in June 1939 from Cleveland High School in Seattle. He also took a 1-year secretarial course at Metropolitan Business College, Seattle and completing that course in 1940.

He moved back to Portland, OR in 1940 and was employed at Swift & Co. there. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1942, served at various West Coast bases and aboard ship in the South Pacific. He was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Navy in November 1945. He then worked for a short time for the Veterans Administration in Idaho. In 1948 he became employed by Weyerhaeuser Co. at Longview, WA worked there, at New York City and Cosmopolis, WA. He resigned from Weyerhaeuser Co. in 1969, and shortly thereafter began a second career with Stewart’s Food Basket in Aberdeen, WA, working up to night manager, a position he held until his retirement in February 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, J’Neil and husband Ole Mackey of Aberdeen; two sons, Colin McAfee also of Aberdeen and Carey and wife Cindy McAfee of Elma, WA; Three Grandchildren and a close friend and caregiver Robert Herman of Sun City, AZ. A sister Norine died in 1956.

Internment with Military Honors will take placed at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, WA on Thursday, September 27th at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Dale McQueen of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Aberdeen will officiate.
