Cindy Matthews

February 16, 1957 — June 17, 2023

Cindy Lee (Duncan) Matthews passed away on June 17, 2023, at St. Peters Hospital in Olympia, Washington. Cindy was the daughter of Robert and Gloria Duncan, born in Aberdeen, Washington on February 16, 1957. Her family moved out to the Wishkah Valley when Cindy was a young child, where she still lived until her passing. Cindy graduated from Wishkah Valley Highschool in 1975. On August 16, 1975, Cindy married the love of her life Keldy L. Matthews. They have four children and 9 grandchildren: Amanda (Josh) Gamage (Ryan, Leah, & Samuel), Amber (Natalie) Matthews, Keldy A. (Stacy) Matthews (Taylor, McKenzie, Presley and Bentley) and Sarah (Sarahi) Matthews-Torres (Duncan & Ezekial).

To those that new Cindy, she was a very quick-witted person. She was very sarcastic and loved to playfully banter with those she cared about. She loved hard. She loved to sit around the kitchen table with family and friends drinking her coffee and having great conversations. However, the most fulfilling thing to Cindy was being a grandmother. She loved to spend as much time with her 9 grandchildren as possible, watching them play various sports, cuddling on the couch watching the history channel or cartoons. She loved to hear, “Grams I have a great idea, grams can we create something, or can we bake.”

Cindy was a very creative person in everything that she did. When she was young, she would practice her penmanship until her handwriting was an artform. Her kids could never forge her signature which she always got a kick out of. She taught herself calligraphy. She was an incredible painter, she taught herself how to paint with oil paints by watching Bob Ross. She pulled her inspiration for creativity into all aspects of her life. Cindy loved to sew. She made her daughters wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and all her children’s clothing when they were young. She crocheted blankets, hats, socks, and sweaters. When Cindy wasn’t being creative with her hands, she loved to read biographies, to expand her knowledge of history, and to find new recipes. Cindy loved to cook, bake, and make our annual traditional Christmas cookies as a family while watching all her Christmas movies.

Cindy felt a great connection with flowers and roses, they brought the hummingbirds, which she loved to watch because they reminded her of her mom. Every summer she looked forward to going out and picking little wild blackberries. She loved to watch her sports, she was a huge supporter of the Seahawks and Mariners, she always had a game on, she loved to hear Dave Niehaus say, “My oh My.”

Gone but never forgotten, Cindy has joined her parents and sister Lynn in heaven. The family would like to invite the community for a celebration of life at the Wishkah Valley Community Church on July 15, 2023, at 12:00 pm. There will be food and drinks following the service.
