Sharon Mathews

1931-2013

"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you will see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight" -Kahlil Gibran

Sharon Mathews passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 18th, 2013. She was born in Ocosta, Washington on November 20th,1931 to Ralph and Bertha (Graham) Mathews. Sharon is preceded in death by her sister Beverly and brothers Jesse and Ralph. She is survived by her sister Leah Lauerman (Steve), her nephew Ty Mathews, and her nieces Ardell McDougall (Randy), Lisa McDougall (Kevin) and Laurie Lauerman (Jeff Gregg).

Sharon graduated from Ocosta High School in 1949, and then went on to earn a BA of Physical Education in Western Washington University, graduating in 1957. She enjoyed a long career educating Junior and Senior High School students and coaching the girl's tennis team at Elma High School. She retired in 1981, but cries of 'Sam!!!!', as her students liked to call her, followed her everywhere she went.

Sharon enjoyed life and loved to laugh. She enjoyed playing golf, watching the Mariners, visiting casinos, and playing the lottery. She loved the ocean and the Ocosta and Markham areas where she spent her childhood. She was a mentor to many youth, a good friend to countless others, and 'Aunt Sharon' to many more than her actual nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by more than she could ever know.

Rest in Peace, Sharon...somewhere over the rainbow.
