Marva Lee Marichal (Underwood), age 82, passed away on December 9, 2022. Marva was born October
30, 1940, in Olympia, Washington, to Laurence and Gladys, known as Lee (Kovaloff) Underwood. Marva

would spend hours on the bay. Marva was proud of the fact her family was certified as Washington State
Pioneers. She graduated from Olympia High School, with the Class of ’58. She attended Western
Washington University for one year (1958-59), before she went to serve with the Marine Corps for 3
years. One of her main duties was working on the Toys for Tots campaign, and she was awarded the

Marva moved back to Olympia, WA and worked for a short time at Peterson’s Foodtown before starting
her career with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, while raising her two children
(Lisa and Larry). Marva moved to Westport, WA, in the early nineties where she spent her time watching
her grandchildren, fishing, walking the docks with friends, and spending time with her loved ones.
Marva is survived by her brother, Mike Underwood, her daughter Lisa Olson, her husband Bill Olson,
and their children Chase (Gabrielle) Olson and Gunnar Olson and her son, Lawrence Thompson, his wife
Jody Thompson and their children Morgan Thompson and Tanner Thompson.
Marva was known to be an independent woman who enjoyed fishing, clamming, mushroom picking,
snow and water skiing, and visiting with her family and friends. She was full of life and spice. She was
always quick with a smile and loved a good joke. She was an avid Seahawks fan and never missed a game
on TV.
A service will be scheduled for in the Spring and we will let friends and family know when the
arrangements get closer. Marva will be greatly missed. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to
