Kenneth Linder

September 7, 1926 — February 21, 2021

Kenneth J. “Ken” Linder, 94, Hoquiam resident and former longtime teacher at Hoquiam High School, passed away on February 21, 2021 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, WA.

Ken was born on September 7, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hjalmar Peter and Ellen Caroline (Hansen) Linder. His family moved to Bellingham where Ken attended school until joining the Army Air Corps in December 1943 where he was trained to be a pilot. Following completion of training in Amarillo, TX in 1945, he was Honorably Discharged because the war had ended. He returned to Bellingham and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1946. Ken then went to college at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, OR and graduated in 1949. He then continued his education at Western Washington College where he graduated with his BA in Education in 1953.

On August 7, 1953, Ken Married Alice Lorraine Duncan in Camas, Washington. Lorraine passed away on December 2, 2016 in Olympia, WA.

Ken started teaching at Joyce Crescent Consolidated High School in Bothell, WA and in 1957, Ken and his family moved to Hoquiam when he started teaching at Hoquiam High School. He earned his Masters in Education from Washington State University in 1965. When the new high school was being designed, Ken was instrumental in the design of the science wing. Ken retired from teaching in 1992.

Ken was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Hoquiam, a Deacon and Elder of the board, Choir Director and Sunday School Director for the church for many years. Ken enjoyed computers, camping, fishing and flying. He could be seen at events with his camera out and a few days he’d hand you some photos he had taken.

Ken is survived by three daughters: Norma (Buddy) Cook of Newberg, OR, Deborah (Steven) Hensley of Vancouver, WA and Carolyn (Ron) Greer of Hoquiam, WA; a son: Kenneth S. (Rondel) Linder of Adelaide, Australia; Eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by a granddaughter Mary Hensley and two brothers: Stanley Linder and Donald Linder; Four sisters: Bernice Manning, Marjorie Johnson, Evelyn Kennedy and Harriet Myers.

There will be a private family graveside service with Military Honors for Ken at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam, WA.

A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Saturday, March 6th at 11 AM at Immanuel Baptist Church in Hoquiam. The service will be streamed live on Facebook, due to limited seating due to Covid-19 restrictions. There will not be a public reception.
