Fifty-nine year resident of Hoquiam, Alice “Lorraine” Linder, 83, died at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia on Friday, December 2, 2016. She was born in Seattle, August 26, 1933, the daughter of Clifford A. Sr. and Inez E. (Clark) Duncan. She graduated as Salutatorian from Camas High School in 1951.
Lorraine went on to attend Western Washington State College in Bellingham, where she met Kenneth J. Linder. They were married on August 7, 1953 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Camas, WA. The couple lived briefly in several cities before settling in Hoquiam, WA.
Lorraine and Ken were very active at Immanuel Baptist Church, Hoquiam. Through the years she served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and church pianist, as well as serving on various committees and the church board. In 1995 Lorraine retired from her job as church secretary and was honored for 35 years of service, which included 20 years as a paid staff member. She loved history and visiting historical sites. Lorraine also enjoyed reading, touring historical sites, and jigsaw puzzles. Her faith and her family were very important to her and are her lasting legacy.
Lorraine is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ken, Hoquiam; a son: Kenneth S. Linder, Copeville, Australia; 3 daughters: Norma (Buddy) Cook, Newberg, OR, Deborah (Steve) Hensley, Vancouver, WA and Carolyn (Ron) Greer, Hoquiam; a sister: Kathleen Baker, Yorba Linda, CA; and also 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter in 1999 and by her brother, Clifford A. “Bert” Duncan in 2012.
Visitation will be held from 1-5 PM Thursday on December 8th in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home, 2208 Roosevelt St., Aberdeen.
A celebration of life will be at 11 AM on Saturday, December 17th at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Soule St., Hoquiam with Reverend Kent Gravley officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Private interment will have taken place in Sunset Memorial Park, Hoquiam.
