Pamela Lee (Raich) Lentz, 65, beloved wife and mother went to join the Lord in Heaven on Monday, February 21, 2011, in Montesano. She was surrounded by family and friends and valiantly fought her battle with cancer to the end.
Pam was born November 23, 1945 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen to Peter G. and Josephine (Roberts) Raich. She attended McDermoth Elementary and Miller Junior High before graduating from Weatherwax High School in 1964. Pam also spent two of her school years in Sitka , Alaska .
After high school, Pam graduated from Grays Harbor College before attending the University of Washington in Seattle , where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She also received a degree from Peterson Business School .
Pam married Donald Lentz on June 22, 1968 in Aberdeen . They lived in Seattle , Livermore , CA , Central Park, and Idaho before settling in the Wishkah Valley .
Pam worked for the Retail Credit Company and Boeing while living in Seattle and then at Pioneer Florist, which was owned by her in-laws, after returning to Aberdeen . She also kept the books for Peter Raich Logging Company Inc., which she and her husband bought from her parents in 1980 and operated until 2007.
Pam belonged to numerous clubs and associations while in school and later in life. She was a board member for Aberdeen Music Boosters and was chaplain and a past president of Aberdeen Pioneer Association. She was an alumna of the University of Washington and Grays Harbor College and served as chairwoman of the Aberdeen High School Class of 1964, which put her in charge of planning many class reunions. Pam was a former vice president of Robert Gray PTO and spent many hours volunteering at the school. She also took great enjoyment from judging senior board presentations at the high school. Pam was a member of the Grays Harbor Chapter of Washington Farm Forestry and helped put on two state conventions in Ocean Shores . She belonged to the Washington Contract Loggers Association and wrote articles for their newsletter, “Springboard.”
Pam was an active and beloved member of United Christian Church and was instrumental in the formation of the women’s Bible study group. Her insights and contributions to discussions of the Bible will be greatly missed.
Pam loved to travel. She took trips to the Hawaiian Islands and Disneyland, cruised to Alaska , and visited many places in California . With their RV, Pam, Donnie, their son, Peter, and dog Sobaka traveled to the Southwest, where they visited the Grand Canyon and other national parks. They also traveled across Southern Canada to Halifax and then south through Boston , New York , and Washington , D.C. While on the East Coast they were able to reconnect with other families who adopted children from Russia at the same time they did.
The greatest adventure of Pam’s life was her trip with Donnie to Russia in October 1994 to adopt their son, Peter. He was the center of her life and she never missed one of his band performances or sports games.
Pam’s hobbies included reading, watching movies, playing the piano, swimming, and needlework. She enjoyed staying at her house on Hood Canal and loved spending time with her family and friends.
