Edith Joanne Leithold, 89, lifetime Aberdeen resident, died Sunday morning, November 22, 2015 at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam.
Edith was born a Christmas present to her parents Peter John and Edna (Meekins) Millin on December 25, 1925 in Aberdeen, WA.
She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1944 and then went to Everett General Hospital for their Cadet Nurses Training program during the war. She had to leave for health reasons and returned to the harbor where she later went to Grays Harbor Business College. She went to work for Kroyer Systems Insurance Co. as a secretary in the 40’s until 1951.
It was in 1951, that Edith married Walter Solomon Leithold. He died on February 8, 2011.
She and Walter every Sunday would go around to the various nursing homes and she would sing while he played the accordion and preached. She enjoyed crafts, growing flowers and walks around town. She was a member of the Croatian Lodge, Church of the Open Bible in Aberdeen and Central Park Neighborhood Church.
Edith is survived by two sons: Wayne Leithold of Olympia and Dennis (Melissa) Leithold of Portland, OR; a sister: Ruth Millin of Aberdeen; two grandsons: Brendon and Gavin. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Leithold and a brother, Albert Millin as a child.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 28th at 1 PM in Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A private family burial took place in the Croatian Section of Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen, WA.
