Betty Lee Krigbaum, 82, a longtime resident of the South Beach communities, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen, Tuesday, August 6, 2013. She was born in Lynden, WA August 7, 1930, the youngest of four children of Jay L. and Lila (Himler) Vinson. She came with her family to O’Leary Creek from Whidbey Island in 1936 and graduated from Ocosta High School in 1948.
Betty married Gilbert Lee Krigbaum at her home at O’Leary Creek, October 1, 1948. The lived on the Harbor and settled in Westport in 1957 as Gilbert was a commercial fisherman on the coast and in Alaska. Betty was a homemaker but also was a crab shaker for Washington Crab Producers, Westport, for many years.
Gilbert died in Olympia just this last February 4, 2013.
Betty was a member of Twin Harbors Baptist Church, Westport and the Westport Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3057. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s sports events, picking little wild black berries and making pies with them, along with the family favorite chocolate chip cookies. She also loved having her family together on holidays and picnics at Lake Nahwatzel and Black Lake.
She is survived by two daughters: Wendy L. and husband Tom Bodwell, Ocosta and Barbara L. and husband Tony Belesiotis, Olympia; and also six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by two brothers: Darrell and Jay Vinson and a sister: Richelene Barker.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 14th at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Soule St., Hoquiam. Pastor Kent Gravley will officiate. A private burial has taken place in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.
