In Loving Memory: Marjorie Ellen Heisen Keller Sjostrand
Marjorie Ellen Heisen Keller Sjostrand, age 98, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2023, at St. Peter's Hospital in Olympia, WA. She was born on Jan. 30, 1925, to Grace and Walter Bell Heisen and spent her early years in Heisson, WA, with her brother, Alex, and best friend and sister, Edna. Her family then moved to Okanogan, WA, around 1935 and eventually settled in Aberdeen, WA, in 1940, where Marjorie's journey into family life truly began.
On Oct. 15, 1944, at the age of 19, beautiful Marjorie married a handsome Coast Guardsman Adolphus Henry “Hank” Keller. They were blessed with three sons: Jim, Steven, and David. For Marjorie, being a devoted wife and mother was her life's calling. Marj and Hank enjoyed 22 years raising their boys together until Hank passed away in 1968. After his death, longtime admirer and family friend, Kurt Sjostrand, re-entered her life. She was truly the love of his life. Marjorie and Kurt exchanged vows in 1974, forming a blended family with the addition of Kurt's sons, Larry and Terry.
Throughout her life, Marj opened her heart and home to provide childcare for both family and friends in the neighborhood. Grandma and Grandpa hosted the grandchildren every summer, taking them to town on the bus and letting them discover the wonders of Grays Harbor life, including an annual trip to the beach which instilled a love of the ocean they carry with them today! Family gatherings at their home for the holidays every year were another highlight for all. Her family was her biggest source of pride.
After Kurt passed away in 2015, Marjorie moved to Snohomish to live with Jim’s family then moved to assisted living in Woodinville. After surviving the Covid years, she then moved down to the Sequoia Assisted Living Facility in Olympia, where she was surrounded by loving family and friends until she passed.
Marjorie Ellen Heisen Keller Sjostrand will forever be remembered for her tidy home and neat appearance, her love of cats, chocolate, Gone with the Wind, cashmere, and the Mariners, and, most of all her love, joy and commitment to her family.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Hank Keller and Kurt Sjostrand, her son, Steve Keller, and her stepsons, Terry and Larry. She is survived by her sons Jim (Claudia) Keller and David (Julie) Keller, daughter-in-law Gail (Steve) Keller, stepdaughter-in-law Sandy (Larry) Sjostrand, 12 beloved grandchildren, and many treasured great grandchildren.
