June Kaiyala

January 1, 1925 — May 7, 2014

June Kaiyala, 89, Aberdeen resident and homemaker, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

She was born on January 1, 1925 in Hollister, Idaho to Willard Robert and Sarah Helen (Malloy) Blair. She grew up in Hollister and graduated from Hollister High School in 1943. She moved to Hoquiam soon after graduation.

On May 5, 1949, June married Edward Rudolph Kaiyala. He passed away on October 14, 2007.

June worked for Schaufer Brothers Timber Co. as a bookkeeper from 1944 to 1949. She later worked for St. Joseph Hospital in Aberdeen from 1975 to 1979. But mostly she was proud of raising her family and being a homemaker.

She was a member of AA. She liked to crochet and working crossword puzzles. When she was younger she enjoyed bowling and golf. She was the champion in the women's rolling pin toss at the Longshoreman’s picnics and a standout in basketball at the PTA women's league.

June is survived by a son Roger of Elma and a daughter Donna Carlaw of Kingston, WA; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Vernon who died at a young age and Virgil who died in WWII in the South Pacific.

A celebration of June’s life will take place on Friday, May 16 at 1:00 P.M.in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel. She will be inurned with her husband Edward at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.
