Dale Johnson

Dale Bertin Johnson was born December 30, 1932, in Minneapolis, MN. Dale passed away on Jan. 1, 2011 in Centralia, WA, he was 78 yrs old.

Dale was raised mostly in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, but graduated from Central Kitsap HS in Silverdale, WA and joined the U.S. Army, where he served in Japan during the Korean War. Dale served the Air Force in the Civil Service with most of his career at Vandenberg AFB, CA.

Dad Married Darlene “Dolly” Leivestad Aug. 29, 1960 and had three sons. He was active in the PTA, the Cub and Boy Scouts, and served their church as a Board Member and Treasurer.

After he retired, Dale and Dolly became missionaries at the Sun Valley Indian School, in Holbrook, AZ. Dale wrote that they “were able to help in getting God’s Word out to others, which is what Christians are called to do.” A few years after his wife passed away Dale settled in Centralia, WA.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly, his mother and father (Lucielle and Leo), his younger brother (Ronny Johnson), and sister (Moneen Grover).

Dale leaves behind his three sons, Dwight and Daryl of Aberdeen, WA, and Darin (Susan) and young daughter, Leigh of Baker, MT; his grandkids Joshua (Heather) Johnson of Aberdeen, WA, Karissa (Chris) Gerber of Cheney, WA, Kenny Johnson of Bozeman, MT, and Shannon Johnson of Baker, MT; his sister Donna (John) Parrish of Scottsdale, AZ, Jean Hays of Kenniwick, WA, June (Wayne) Freeberg of Galena, IL, and youngest brother Bill (Debbie) of Naples, FL, along with many in-laws and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the world.

Dad was cremated. His ashes will be buried with his beloved wife, in Glendive, MT at Dawson Memorial Cemetery. There will be a celebration of this gentle man’s life at the Evangelical Church of North America in Glendive, MT on Saturday, January 29th, 2011 at 10:00 am.

En lieu of flowers, Dad wished Memorial Donations in his name be sent to The Sun Valley Indian School, PO Box 4013, Sun Valley, AZ 86029.
