Longtime resident of Elma, Craig Lewis Johanson died on September 11, 2013, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia due to a massive stroke, which occurred the evening of September 5, 2013. He was 53 years old. Craig was born on July 13, 1960, in Aberdeen, to Donald and Frances Johanson.
Craig grew up and attended school in Elma, graduating in 1979. He worked for many people and companies in the area driving log truck, gravel truck and worked as a heavy equipment operator.
Craig was preceded in death by his father, Donald Johanson of Elma. He is survived by his daughter, Alicia Johanson of McCleary and a son, Jesse Johanson of Elma; his mother, Frances Johanson of Elma; brothers, Ronnie (Bonnie) Johanson of Malone, Dirk A. (Terri) Johanson of Elma; and sister, Norma Jean Johanson of Elma. He also has three nieces and two nephews, Christopher (Jamie) Johanson of Elma, Marjorie (Jeremiah) Campbell of Grandview, Sheena Johanson of Malone, Leah Johanson of Elma and Dirk C. Johanson of Montesano; four great-nieces and two great-nephews.
Craig was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed riding his Harley with his friends every chance he could. One of his many highlights in life was riding his Harley to Sturgis in 2006. Craig was the kind of guy who would help you anytime at the drop of a hat. He could fix and do just about anything. Craig had a big heart and a big sense of humor; he always had a story and could make anyone laugh.
At the time of Craig's death he suffered from a long term stomach condition and was unable to work for the past two years.
Craig always said he never wanted a funeral service, but there will be a gathering of family and friends at the family home, 27 Taylor Ferry Road in Elma, starting at 1:00pm and ending when the last person leaves on Saturday, September 21, 2013.
